GOAT CHEESE, ARTICHOKE AND SMOKED HAM STRATA
~Preheat oven to 350
~Butter or spray Pam on 13x9x2 glass baking dish
2 cups whole milk
¼ cup olive oil
8 cups 1 inch cubes sourdough bread
~Whisk milk and olive oil in large bowl. Stir in bread. Let stand until liquid is absorbed about 10 minutes
1 ½ cups whipping cream
5 eggs
1 T chopped garlic
1 ½ t salt
¼ t pepper
½ t nutmeg
~Whisk cream through nutmeg in another large bowl to blend. Add 12 ounces of goat cheese.
~Mix herbs in a small bowl--
2T chopped fresh sage and 1 T chopped fresh thyme and 1 ½ t herbes de Provence
12 ounces smoked ham, chopped
12 to 18 ounces marinated artichoke hearts, drained and halved
1 cup packed grated Fontina cheese
1 ½ cups packed grated Parmesan cheese
Place half the bread mixture in prepared dish. Top with half the ham, artichoke hearts, herbs and cheese. Pour half the cream mixture over. Repeat layer remaining with bread, ham, artichoke, herbs, cheeses and cream mixture.
(Can be made one day ahead. Cover, chill)
Bake uncovered until firm in center and brown around the edges, about 1 hour.
